What to Do About Family Law and Divorce

Write a concise list of your most important divorce goals.

Write a summary of the facts of the case (why you are seeing the attorney, the length of your marriage, number and age of kids, property owned, length of marriage, assets other than real estate, liabilities incurred during the marriage, and income of both parties).

Don’t immediately share your plans to divorce with family and friends; give yourself some time, privacy, and the opportunity to understand how the process will work.

Create an inventory of all marital and possible non-marital assets and liabilities.
